To all my friends and readers –
I’ve been struggling all week long trying to write an acceptable post about the tragedy with the young Australian baseball player visiting in Oklahoma. I wrote and then discarded at least four attempts, but I could never quite find the right words to express how I feel. Today, I came across this post on “The Repentant Republican” and immediately realized that nothing that I could add to his sentiments would say it better. I usually don’t like to reblog, preferring to present my thoughts in my own words. However, in this case, I defer to the skills and talent of this blogger.

Dear Citizens of Australia,
I don’t know what to say, other than “I’m sorry”.
When I read the story about the horrifying murder of Christopher Lane in Duncan, Oklahoma this week, I was deeply saddened. By all accounts, a good kid with a promising future, gunned down while jogging by three teens who were apparently “bored”. I cannot even begin to fathom the pain that his family, friends, and everyone in Australia is feeling right now. My heart goes out to all of you.
When I read about the reaction of the people there, including calls for Aussies to think twice about visiting the United States amidst our violent gun culture, I had only one reaction:
